Emanuel-Tande (BRA) dominate the first event of the 2001 season
Tenerife, Spain, 17 June, 2001 - Emanuel-Tande (BRA) had convincing
victories in both their semi-final match against Child-Heese (CAN) and in
the final against Laciga-Laciga (SUI).
Emanuel-Tande took only 40 minutes to defeat Child-Hesse 2-0 (21-14,
21-17) in the first semi-final and only 31 minutes to win the championship
from Laciga-Laciga 2-0 (21-19, 21-14).
This was a very successsful beginning to the new partnership of
Emanuel-Tande who will now wear the gold jerseys in the next weekends FIVB
World Tour Open in Gstaad, Switzerland.
In the other semi-final match today Laciga-Laciga defeated Baracetti-Conde
(ARG) 2-1 (19-21, 21-11, 15-13).
Baracetti-Conde managed to win the bronze medal against Child-Heese 2-0
(21-15, 25-23).
Tenerife, Spain, 16 June, 2001 - Teams from four different countires will
compete in the semi-finals of the first Men's FIVB World Tour event of the
2001 season. Emanuel-Tande (BRA), Child-Heese (CAN), Laciga-Laciga (SUI)
and Baracetti-Conde (ARG) will battle for the 2001 Spain Open (Tenerife)
Championship on Sunday.
The beauty of Playa de Las Teresitas combined with perfect weather (28C
and sunny) provided an excellent backdrop for todays matches. 3000
enthusiatic spectators were treated to the best beach volleyball in the
world. Ten of the 18 matches played this day were decided in an exciting
third set.
Emanuel-Tande (BRA) will play Child-Heese (CAN) in the first semi-final on
Sunday while Baracetti-Conde (ARG) will duel Laciga-Laciga (SUI) in the
second semi-final.
The first semi-final match will begin on Sunday June 17 at 10:00.
Tenerife, Spain, 15 June, 2001 - The number one seeded team of
Emanuel-Tande (BRA) and the number two seeded team of Ricardo-Loiola (BRA)
are both undefeated after the first day of competition.
Emanuel-Tande defeated Carvajal-Bernal (CUB) 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) and
Kobel-Heuscher (SUI) 2-0 (21-18, 21-14) while Ricardo-Loiola were
victorious against Kais-Kais (EST) 2-0 (21-18, 21-14) and Holden-Leinemann
2-0 (21-5, 26-24).
Blanton-Fonoimoana (USA) the 2000 Sydney Olympic Champions and
Laciga-Laciga (SUI) the defending 2000 Tenerife Champions were also
undeafed on the first day of competition. In fact, these strong teams
will play against each other in the first round of matches on Saturday
morning.
The other undefeated teams from Friday's competition are: Wong-Metzger
(USA), Marcio-Adriano (BRA), Baracetti-Conde (ARG), Child-Hesse (CAN).
The eight remaining teams with only one loss are: Ermishin-Kouchnerev
(RUS), Bosma-Cotrino (ESP), Ze Marco-Para (BRA), Kjemperud-Hoidalen (NOR),
Maaseide-Horrem (NOR), Zahner-Prosser (AUS), Slack-Novosel (AUS),
Kobel-Heuscher (SUI).
Tenerife, Spain, 14 June, 2001 - The Spain Open (Tenerife) is the season
opener for the Men's 2001 FIVB World Tour.
The best men's beach volleyball teams in the world - including all the
medallists from the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games will compete at Playa de Les
Teresitas - the beautiful beach located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Due to the late injury withdraw of the team of Maia-Brenha (POR) nine
teams were able to advance from the qualification tournament (June 13-14)
to compete in the Main Draw:
Marcio- Adriano (BRA), Delfosse-Melis (BEL), Canet-Hamel (FRA), Kais-Kais
(EST), Dieckmann-Reckermann (GER), Heyer-Egger (SUI),
Carvajal-Ramírez(CUB), Slack-Novosel (AUS), and Palavecino-De Piaggio
(ARG).
The first matches of the main draw begin at 9:00AM on Friday June 15.
