World League Pool B: GRE vs. POL

Greece is in a very tight squeeze in its quest for a berth in the next round of the 2001 FIVB World League, after losing for the second night in a row to Poland in Pool B of the Intercontinental Round. Poland survived an attempt at a comeback by Greece and came back from 21-20 and 23-21 in the fourth set, to end the match in four.
Greece improved its performance compared to the opening match of the weekend, but commited as many as 34 unforced errors and allowed Poland the decisive victory, despite the noisy support of a 4,000-strong partisan crowd that once more almost filled the Alexandrion Hall even though the home team had disappointed its fans on Friday evening.
Poland won an easy opening set, as Greece made eight serivce errors. But the home team came back in the second, playing an excellent match, and tied the overall score at 1-1. fter the ten-minute break Poland came back and clinched the third. Greece was all set to force a tie-break, when it led 23-21 and had the chance to score its 24th point (when Todor Baev hit wide). Poland tied the score at 23-23 and cancelled a set-point of Greece at 24-23, before coming back to win the set 24-26 and the match 1-3
