World League Pool D: USA vs GER
    From FIVB online.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO - The USA Men's National Team beat Germany 3 games to 0 (32-30, 25-15, 25-16) tonight in World League 2001 play at the Colorado Springs World Arena. The USA and Germany started off with a game one that seemed as though it wouldn't end. USA ended up winning game one 32-30. That was the only game that was close though as the USA went on the win the match easily, winning games two and three by the scores of 25-15 and 25-16. USA now will meet the Netherlands next weekend with a trip to the finals of the World League on the line.

"I think our rhythm tonight was mostly to do with Chris Seiffert," said Doug Beal, USA Men's National Team Head Coach. "Chris was a lot more comfortable after the match yesterday, I think he played a big chunk better today. The setter can put the team in rhythm, if he locates the ball well and gets the other teams block thinking about all of the options that he has. I thought Chris was a whole lot better and that was the biggest difference. I thought we served pretty effectively. I thought Tom Hoff had a very good blocking day. I thought we killed a lot more balls in the middle. Overall it was a much better performance by everybody, but it started with Chris I thought." Kevin Barnett had one of his best matches of this year's World League, leading the USA in scoring with 14 points, all kills.

Reid Priddy followed with 9 points (6 kills and 3 blocks). Tom Hoff had 8 points (5 kills and 3 blocks).

Despite their tremendous effort, Germany remains winless in World League 2001. They were led in scoring tonight by Michael Mayer with 12 points (11 kills and 1 service ace). Their captain, Stefan Hubner followed with 9 points.

The USA now sits in second in Pool D rankings with a record of 6- 4. Brazil leads Pool D with a record of 9-1. The Netherlands are in third place in the rankings with a record of 5-5.

Germany sits in last place with a 0-10 record. The USA will travel to Amsterdam this weekend where they will play The Netherlands with a berth into the final round of World League 2001 on the line. The top two finishing teams in each preliminary pool will advance to the final round, June 25-30, in Katowice, Poland.
