Winnipeg Rookie Middle Blocker Peter Turpin was the first of an expected
3-4 players to be released this week from the National Men¹s Volleyball
Team.
Turpin who was the tallest member of the Team at 6¹10, will instead begin
training with the National Men¹s B Team when they start camp at the end of
the month in Winnipeg. The National B Team will be participating in the
World Student University Games taking place in China in later this August.
Team Canada Head Coach Stelio DeRocco had many promising things to say
about Turpin¹s future with Team Canada; "At 6¹10 Peter is an ideal size
for Team Canada and he has a promising future with the program. He
currently lacks a bit of physical strength and tactical strategies for the
international level, but has been improving tremendously these past few
months. He has the potential to be a star player on this team a few
years down the road."
Coach DeRocco is expected to release 2-3 more players later this week to
make room for returning veterans Paul Duerden, Murray Grapentine, Jason
Haldane and possibly Terry Martin depending on his injury status.
