Canada Women's Roster Announced
After an intense week of tryout camp with over fifty athletes from across Canada, Head Coach Lorne Sawula has chosen his 15 person roster that will be training throughout the summer, and whom will represent Canada at the World Championships beginning in August.
The athletes that have been chosen to the 2002 National Women's Team include:
Krista Kinsman (Calgary, AB), Anne-Marie Lemieux (Sherbrooke, PQ), Barb Bellini (White Rock, BC), Joanne Ross (Beaconsfield, PQ), Heather Osberg (Vancouver, BC), Melissa Raymond (Sherbrooke, PQ), Annie Levesque (Amqui, PQ), Amy Tutt (Vancouver, BC), Kim Exner (Vancouver, BC), Alison Peckham (London, ON), Stephanie Wheler (Saskatoon, SK ), Tammy Mahon (Holland, MB), Rae Ann Mitchel (Prince George, BC), Mirka Priybylova (Brno, Czech Republic), Jenny Rauh ( Vancouver, BC). Merrin Thompson (Vancouver, BC) will stay with the team though to Canada Cup (June 13 16) as an extended tryout.
"I was very impressed with the overall quality of the athletes at the camp this year, stated Team Canada Head Coach Lorne Sawula. "As always it was difficult to make decisions. I surrounded myself with an amazing group of guest coaches this week who helped out the athletes and myself enormously. It was a tremendous camp, and we hope to see all of the athletes back again next year."
National Women's A-2 Volleyball Team Announced
The National Women's A-2 Volleyball Team Roster has now been finalized.
Athletes selected to this years 2002 squad include:
Outside Hitters: Kara Zakrzewska (Etobicoke, ON), Elizabeth Jamieson (Halifax, NS), Julie Salyn (Binscarth, MB), Tara Smart (Moosomin, SK), Christine Bonish (Coquitlam, BC), Claudia Houle (Defoy, PQ), Middle Blockers: Jill Friend (Kelowna, BC), Lies Verhoef (Calgary, AB), Tracy Keats (Gander, NF), Andrea Charbonneau (Winnipeg, MB), and Setters: Amy Shroeder (Oak Bank, MB) and Stephanie Penner (Winnipeg, MB).
The team will be training in Winnipeg through to the middle of June, where they will compete and train with the visiting teams that will take part in the 2002 Canada Cup.
Team Canada Senior Assistant Coach Naoki Miyashita (Kawasaki, Japan) will be heading up the team, along with guest coach Kirk Yanofsky (Halifax, NS).
