Top Three Stories of AVP 2005 #1 - EY and Rachel End the Streak!

EY and Rachel End the Streak
Cincinnati was the sixth stop in 2005. The previous five stops had all ended the same for Elaine Youngs and Rachel Wacholder, losing to Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. Entering the Cincinnati finals, Misty and Kerri were riding a 50 match win streak while EY and Rachel had not made it out of the semifinals in the previous three tournaments. With a 15-13 win in game three, EY and Rachel won the tournament and ended the streak.

Karch wins in Huntington
Karch Kiraly rewrote the record books again with his win in Huntington Beach. Karch became the oldest player to win a tournament and Huntington became Karch's 148th career title, also a record. Huntington Beach marked the reunion between Karch and Mike Lambert, who had played with different partners for the previous five tournaments.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh win 50 Straight
On September 4, 2004, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated Pat Keller and Wendy Stammer 21-12, 21-6 in the Chicago Open. The duo would not lose again until July 2, 2005 in Cincinnati to Elaine Youngs and Rachel Wacholder. During the 50 match win streak, May-Treanor and Walsh would win 9 tournaments and drop just nine games along the way.
