The American women are hoping to continue their winning streak at 2006 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Roermond, the Netherlands, after defeating the Ukraine on Monday, while the men are hoping to rebound after a three-game loss against Croatia.
The men will face Bosnia-Herzegovina in the second round of World Championship action on Monday afternoon. The team will also face Brazil and Russia on Tuesday and Germany on Wednesday.
The women are looking for another win in matches against Brazil on Tuesday and the Netherlands, 2004 Paralympic Games silver medalists, on Wednesday.
“Our team is peaking at just the right moment,” team member Allison Aldrich said in an e-mail after the win against Ukraine. “I honestly think that we can take the whole tournament.”
Aldrich led the squad to the first American volleyball medal in Paralympic history, a bronze in Athens, Greece two years ago. The team has not competed internationally since.
The men’s and women’s quarterfinals are Thursday, the semifinals, fifth place and seventh place matches are Friday, and the medal matches are Saturday
