Vitória, Brazil, 28 November, 2000 - The qualification tournament for the
last FIVB Word Tour event for the 2000 season began today in Vitória,
Brazil.
25 teams began the day battling for the nine places available in the main
draw which commences on Thurday.
Top ranked Brazilian team Franco-Roberto Lopes were beaten by the
austrians bothers Tom and Paul Schroffenegger in 2-1 sets in their last
match of the day and must progress through a tough losers bracket to
advance to the main draw.
In hot and humid conditions with temperatures in the mid 30º C teams from
europe and North America struggled with heat, but will impove as the
tournament progresses.
Play commences at 9.00 am tomorrow as the remaining 16 teams struggle for
that elusive spot in the main draw.
