World League Final Six - Yugoslavia vs. USA
Rotterdam, Netherlands, June 12, 2000
Quotes from FIVB
Yugoslavia def. U.S.A. 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 36-34, 25-14)
"Rotterdam, Netherlands - The USA Men's National Volleyball Team dropped a
close four-set match today to Yugoslavia, 15-25, 25-19, 34-36, 14-25, to
fall to 1-2 in the $10 million World League Final Round. The six-team
round-robin event will continue Friday with Team USA facing Russia. The top
two teams after round-robin play will advance to Sunday's championship
match, with the third- and fourth-place teams meeting in the consolation
final.
"It was like two different matches today," Head Coach Doug Beal said. "Not
to take anything away from Yugoslavia, because they played extremely well,
but we came out very tentative in the first set and then turned it around in
the second and third sets. Dropping that close third set caused us to lose
a lot of momentum and confidence."
